Whether you’re a die-hard disc golf player or someone who always wanted to try the game, you’ll want to check out the Kings Mark Disc Golf Course this summer. This new 18-hole course meanders through the pine forest and trails of King Pine Ski Area with a total course length from the blue tees of just over 7,000 feet. The course was designed by locally renowned disc golf course designer Dennis Grzywacz and opened in early July.
A 5th generation member of the Hoyt Family, owners of Purity Spring Resort and King Pine Ski Area, Kings Mark Course Manager Aaron Morong looks to bring a new dynamic to the historic resort.
Morong emphasized their goal is to offer a high-quality course, using DGA Mach X baskets, tee pads and a packed stone surface. “Mach X baskets are a professional level disc catcher and the pack stone circle tee boxes will allow for myriad options off the tee.”
Kings Mark opened initially with blue tees with white tees to come in phase 2. Morong explained, “Blue tees are the advanced option while the white tees will be the beginner/intermediate option. Our courses are being designed with clean but technical lines.” explained Morong.
Those familiar with King Pine Ski Area will recognize the course location as being situated by the mountain’s “backside” by Milt’s Lodge. Located close to Purity Spring Resort’s lodging properties, disc golf will be convenient for guests at the resort and at nearby Danforth Bay RV Resort. The course will also be open to the general public.
With a focus on the local community, the new disc golf course will be a gathering place for locals to socialize, play a round and learn a new sport.
“By offering random doubles and clinics, we can introduce newcomers to the game. Random doubles let beginners play with more expert players to learn.” Morong continued, “We are beginning our opening season with cost per a round of 18 holes to be $10 for ages 12 and up. Children under 12 are free. We hope to also offer membership bundles for couples or families for a greater value, encouraging frequent play by locals.”
Ultimately, the resort expects disc golf to be an activity that melds well with Nordic and downhill skiing, hiking, and other outdoor sports that are part of their culture. Disc golf is a fun activity while hiking and enjoying the outdoors with friends.
